I just recently bought a subscription of Microsoft Office 365 Home and installed it on my desktop PC. However, even though I was logged into the correct Microsoft account, I was repeatedly prompted to Activate the product whenever I opened one of the Office apps like Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook etc. It’d show a message like, “Activate before [Date], or most of the features will be disabled” where [Date] is my next Office 365 renewal date. I got tired of being repeatedly asked for it when I actually have a working subscription and I’m logged into my appropriate Microsoft account. I looked online and this is how I fixed the issue:
Step 1: Before everything else, make sure you are logged into the exact same Microsoft account where you have the Office 365 subscription. To do that, search for “My Office” in the start menu and confirm that everything is in place.
Step 2: Check if you have multiple copies of Office installed which might be causing the problem to occur. To do that, on the Windows 10 task bar, type Control Panel in the “Type here to search” box, select Control Panel from the search results, and then select “Programs and Features“. From there, check if more than one version of Office appears, right-click the version you won’t be using and then click on Uninstall.
Step 3: Make sure you have a valid Office 365 subscription. In order to check your current subscription details, go to this page here: Microsoft Account Services and Subscriptions. If you haven’t yet passed the “next charge” date, you are good to go.
Step 4: Once you have cross-checked all the steps above and found that all the pieces of the puzzle fit correctly, you may use the “Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365“. Click here to download it. Once installed and opened, select “Office” from the initial menu and click on Next. After that, select this option, “I’ve installed Office, but I can’t activate it“. It will then ask you to log into your Microsoft account to gather the details and validate them. If you have any of the Office apps open, you will be asked to close it before SARA can do its job.
