- The first thing that you require to do is to quit the mail application and then reset your iPad or iPhone.
- Now double click your home button to view the currently running applications on your iDevice.
- Now close the mail application that you see running by flicking it upwards.
- Now again try to open the mail app and access you mail. You will be able to read the mail content now.

I am experiencing the problem of “this message has no content” on my ipad and have followed the procedure you advise, to no avail. I have also reset the IPad by depressing the off button and the home button at the same time. This also has not solved the problem.

All of these comments are just random stuff people have tried on other forums.
That may or may not fix it.
The real problem is using IMAP with GMail (or possibly other mail provider)
The problem I believe is caused when a new message comes in,
and the user opens it immediately before the message has fully downloaded or read from the mail server.
This is a bug that was never in iOS6 and appeared in iOS 7.
I’m now running iOS8.1 and the bug still exists.
If you use the GMail app there is no problem.
The problem is Apple hasn’t fixed the bug in their eMail application.
Mine just got fixed by having my IP “reset” the mail account on their end. Not sure what that means but it worked. And this is after days of talking to the Indian tech support they offer.
Doesnt work on iPad 1, iOS 5+
The only way I’ve found to fix this problem with the current iOS 9.3.4 is to quit the mail app (double tap on the menu button and swipe up on the mail app), go into the settings, delete the email account having issues, do a full reboot of the phone (holding down the power and menu button together until the phone shuts down and restarts), re-add the email account in the settings menu. Just deleting and re-adding the account doesn’t work for me – the phone has to be rebooted in between deleting and reinstalling. Our IMAP email account that usually has the issues is through GoDaddy – I only have to do this reset once in a blue moon, so it’s not worth the bother of having a separate mail app since Apple’s Mail works fine for all my other email accounts (gmail, me, iCloud, exchange, aol, etc). However, I’m looking forward to when Apple fixes this glitch… maybe with iOS 10?!
